Empowered Stories
Nikki's story: finding belonging through movement
From discovering dance as a child to creating experiences for the next generation, Nikki Visaj shares a story of resilience, self-expression and connection.

A place to belong
Nikki describes discovering dance at eight and finding something that gave her confidence and a sense of belonging. When private lessons were difficult to afford, she helped her coach teach adults so she could keep learning.
Movement remained important through a difficult period in her teens. In her account, returning to exercise and receiving her grandmother's support helped her reconnect with herself.
Turning experience into purpose
Today, Nikki's work carries that belief in movement into programs and performances for children. Through The Nikki Visaj Movement and The Glow Squad, she creates opportunities for young people to participate, express themselves and feel included.
In the video, she speaks about wanting her own children to feel loved and to know they belong. That same intention is reflected in her ambition to offer positive role models through performance.
Still discovering
Nikki's story is also about continuing to find joy. She describes discovering aerial straps and recognising the same excitement she felt when she first began dancing. It offers another way to express herself, build confidence and keep learning.
